I didn't want to tell the tree or weed what it was. I wanted it to tell me something and through me express its meaning in nature.
Photography deals exquisitely with appearances, but nothing is what it appears to be. All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget. In this - as in other ways - they are the opposite of paintings. Paintings record what the painter remembers. Because each one of us forgets different things, a photo more than a painting may change its meaning according to who is looking at it.
There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.
Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter.
